2023 National Demographic Dividend Conference

2023 NATIONAL DEMOGRAPHIC DIVIDEND CONFERENCE

 

National Population Council, in partnership with Makerere University Department of Population Studies, UNFPA, and the Netherlands Embassy in Uganda, is organizing a two-day National Demographic Dividend Conference to review the progress that has so far been made in implementing the Roadmap for harnessing Uganda’s Demographic Dividend.

The National Demographic Dividend Conference is scheduled for Wednesday, May 3, 2023, and Thursday, May 4, 2023, at Hotel Africana in Kampala. The conference will bring together participants from Government MDAs, the National Demographic Dividend Steering Committee, the Uganda Demographers Association, Development Partners, Civil Society, Cultural and Religious Leaders, Youth Representatives, Policymakers, Academia, Local Governments, and the Media.

OBJECTIVES OF THE DEMOGRAPHIC DIVIDEND CONFERENCE

  • To discuss the current demographic trends and generate evidence-based, innovative, and implementable strategies to enable Uganda to harness the demographic dividend.
  • To lobby decision and policymakers to prioritize and finance interventions aimed at harnessing Uganda’s demographic dividend.
  • To facilitate coordination, networking, and information exchange among demographic dividend stakeholders.
  • To dialogue with young people and cultural and religious leaders to generate recommendations to strengthen their actions toward harnessing Uganda’s demographic dividend.

 THEME 

Building a Competitive Human Capital for Wealth Creation in a World of Eight Billion

METHODOLOGY 

The two-day conference will be hybrid, with participants attending both in person and virtually. The first day of the conference will start with a half-day opening session, followed by breakaway sessions in the afternoon. The second day will start with a plenary session to recap deliberations of day one which will be followed by breakaway sessions and a closing session in the afternoon.

The opening session will feature welcome and opening remarks, a keynote address, and entertainment. The breakaway sessions will have presentations on key topical demographic dividend issues and open discussions. The closing session will feature a Rapporteur’s presentation on key emerging issues, closing remarks, and a reception.

While entrance to the conference is free, participants will be required to register in advance. The target is to have 300 participants attend in person, and other participants attend virtually.
